The Desert Truck model 42 "Sahariana" was developed on behalf of the Royal Italian Army based on the chassis and mechanics of the valid AB 41 car. In the course of operations on the African front, there was a need for a reconnaissance vehicle particularly suited to desert conditions, where the sand march required special characteristics absent from the available vehicles. Thanks to its low side profile and large wheels, the "Saharana" was ideal for reconnaissance operations and for carrying out rapid raids into enemy territory. The good autonomy enhanced the possibility of using the vehicle even for wide-ranging operations. The type of armament could vary by model and consisted of the Breda 20/65 Mod 1935 Gunner, the effective 47/32 anti-tank gun or the 20mm Solothurn anti-tank rifle. For collectors over the age of 14
